Parish Life

3 Items

St. Peter’s is a busy parish with a full range of activities for adults and kids—activities in the church and in the community, some regularly scheduled and some totally ad hoc. Many of our activities are outreach ministries, and all of our activities help to reinforce the bonds of fellowship that tie us together. Sometimes there’s a special cause for celebration… and sometimes we celebrate just for the sheer glee of celebrating!

Several of our community-focused activities are parish traditions—for example, our outreach ministries to Hopkins Manor nursing home and to the Maple Street homeless shelter have been part of parish life for many years. Our ongoing ministries to local day laborers and to people served by Atherton Court are more recent but each has drawn large numbers of participants.

Last year we collected 150 backpacks filled with school supplies for students in need. We provided 70 new , wrapped Christmas gifts for low-income families at Taft School. And our food-collection program goes on year-round.

Annual retreats have been part of parish life for decades, and our yearly Women’s Retreat, Men’s Retreat, and Parish Retreat provide peaceful breathing space in busy lives.

We have tons of activities for young people. Our tweens and teens group, SPY (St. Peter’s Youth), is devoted to fellowship and service. In the summer of 2015 the SPYs traveled to Crownpoint, New Mexico, for a hands-on service project. But caring has no age limit—even the youngest parishioners have worked on Hope Bags for the homeless. Learn more about our youth programs here!
