Capital Campaign Construction Update
The St. Peter's "growing in Faith, Renewing our Legacy" Capital Campaign, which began in 2006, came to a close in 2011 with the completion of the kitchen renovation project. Total income from the campaign over five years was $385,030.33. This amount is roughly $100,000 less than the total pledged at the beginning of the campaign. The shortfall was due to a number of factors, including people who moved away from the Redwood City area, and, most significantly, the downturn of the economy in 2008-2009.
Interestingly, though fulfillment of pledges was significantly short of the amount originally pledged, the total expenditures for the campaign came within roughly five percent of the total original estimate for the projected cost of the campaign, which was $362,135. Additionally, even with the shortfall from the originally pledged amount ($485,000), our hard-working Capital Campaign Building Committee was able to complete ALL of the most important projects laid out for the campaign at its, inception. This list included:
1. Replacing electrical Wiring and upgrading electrical panels in the church and parish hall buildings.
2. Installation of an ADA-compliant bathroom and renovation of the sexton's storage space.
3. Termite abatement of the entire facility (church, chapel, parish hall and offices/preschool).
4. Complete repair of dry rot and termite damage in the west wall of the parish hall and office building.
5. Remodeling and upgrading of the 1920's-era kitchen.
6. Total refurbushment of the parish hall, library, Hallways and offices, including refinished hardwood floors, new carpeting and paint, and new lighting and fans.
7. Installation of a completely new heating system in the church and chapel building.
8. Installation of new forced air furnaces in the parish hall building (library and preschool spaces).
9. Remodeling of old office spaces in the church and chapel building to provide new meeting space (vestry room).
10. Refurbishing of classrooms B & C (primarily Godly Play space).
In addition, a new roof and new gutters were installed on the church and chapel building. This project was made possible by an generous bequest from the estate of Emmett Murphy.
The one project that remains is the installation of a fire alarm system in the parish hall and office building at an estimated cost of $25,000. Without sufficient funds remaining in the Capital Campaign account, this project will need to wait for another time.
We now bring the Capital Campaign officially to a close. Special thanks go to the Capital Campaign Steering Committee (Jeff Redlawsk, Peter Hutchinson, Karen Zack, Eleanor Hiles, Tom McDonough, Fr. Chip Larrimore, LeAnn Mitchell, Arthur Lloyd, and Lori Castellucci).
